Soon the First Snow Will Fall The Snowman has a pretty good cast stars Michael Fassbender , Rebecca Ferguson , Charlotte Gainsbourg (one of my favorites), Val Kilmer , and J. K. Simmons . This movie follows a detective in pursuit of the eponymous Snowman serial killer who, and in case you couldn't guess, uses snowmen as his calling card. Stunning Scenery This isn't a very well written screenplay, but I've heard good things about the book. Of the many serial killer movies out there, this one is particularly predictable, maki…
When Good Girls Go Bad Too Late for Tears is one of those classic Film Noirs that takes good people and turns them on end into - well - not so good. Lizabeth Scott 's character, a new wife, quickly turns bad, and I mean in an
Amazon's Version of Fargo? Blow the Man Down reminds me of Fargo , especially in its mood and feel – if that makes sense. It has the crime and humor with the low-key pace like Fargo but lacks a smidge of something intangible.
This was a decent little suburban-noir, starring one of my favorites - Loretta Young! Here's a nice synopsis from Amazon: As the delusional George Jones (Barry Sullivan) struggles to recover from a crippling heart attack, he begins to believe his wife, Ellen (Loretta Young), and friend, Dr. Grahame (Bruce Cowling), are planning to kill him in order to be together. George decides to write the authorities about his wife's supposed murder plot. But when he really does die, of health complications, the innocent Ellen realizes that she …
This is a great, sexy little noir starring one of my favorite actors - Ida Lupino! And oh dear Lord - DO NOT confuse this with Patrick Swayze's movie of the same name, that's be a tragedy! Amazon has a good synopsis: At a seedy nightclub and bowling alley near the Canadian border, owner Jefty Robbins (Richard Widmark) is in love with his new cabaret singer, Lily Stevens (Ida Lupino), who only has eyes for Jefty's best friend, bar manager Pete Morgan (Cornel Wilde). Although he tries to keep his distance, Pete soon falls for L…
Strangers On A Train is just flat out a creepy movie. I "enjoyed" it, even though there was just something that kept me antsy and uncomfortable throughout. I think this may also have been the first movie that I actually realized Alfred Hitchcock had a daughter . I think I read somewhere that when Patricia Highsmith wrote the book, her inspiration was the true-life story of Leopold and Loeb. The Smithsonian has a nice piece about these two freaks who killed a kid just to see how it would feel to commit the perfect crime. L&…
The type of man she hated . . . was the type she wanted ! I can still remember the first time seeing this movie. It was back in the '70s and I was just a dumb kid sitting on the living room floor eating popcorn with the rest of my family. Even back then I knew this movie was special even if I didn't understand a lot of what was being said.
