Part Wolf, Part Man - Wolfman - from A Merry Monster Christmas - 1964 I love the old Universal horror movies ! Frankenstein , Phantom of the Opera, The Wolf Man, all of 'em! I remember being scared out of my gourd watching these movies on a Saturday night, and sometimes even in broad daylight on a Saturday morning! When Larry Talbot morphed into the Wolfman in what would now be considered middle-school super-8 style special effects, I was scared to death! And all that fog! I mean I've spent time in the woods all over the coun…
One of my favorite relaxing pastimes is watching old movies. Occasionally, I'll post about one I like. Here's the first on this blog: The Damned Don't Cry is (at this point) my second favorite Joan Crawford movie. Number one will have to wait for another day, but this one really was good. Kind of a Mephistopheles rags-to-riches story - with a price to pay in the end. Now, I don't stand for men hitting women, but one significant scene in the movie involves just that. REVIEWS: Noir of the Week did a great revi…
This is a great, sexy little noir starring one of my favorite actors - Ida Lupino! And oh dear Lord - DO NOT confuse this with Patrick Swayze's movie of the same name, that's be a tragedy! Amazon has a good synopsis: At a seedy nightclub and bowling alley near the Canadian border, owner Jefty Robbins (Richard Widmark) is in love with his new cabaret singer, Lily Stevens (Ida Lupino), who only has eyes for Jefty's best friend, bar manager Pete Morgan (Cornel Wilde). Although he tries to keep his distance, Pete soon falls for L…
The type of man she hated . . . was the type she wanted ! I can still remember the first time seeing this movie. It was back in the '70s and I was just a dumb kid sitting on the living room floor eating popcorn with the rest of my family. Even back then I knew this movie was special even if I didn't understand a lot of what was being said.
"I've Done Things I'm Ashamed of... But This Isn't One of Them!" Possessed starred Joan Crawford, Van Hefflin and Raymond Massey. At some point in the movie, it occurred to me that Massey was in Arsenic and Old Lace as Johnny, the twisted killer. I don't know - this kind of realization cracks me up - the number of movies I've watched, it's fun to be surprised! Of lakes, boats and houses possessed Anyway, this was a good movie. One of the things I liked was the lake house setting, with the house the Chris…
