Lives in Two Voices

Introduction

Life flows between extremes we rarely name: moments of silent endurance and bursts of unrestrained vitality. These poems explore that spectrum, showing how we inhabit both quiet desperation and bold exclamation. Each stanza reflects a day in two possible lives, one lived inwardly, the other outwardly - inviting the reader to witness the contrasts we carry within.

_______________

I. Lives of Quiet Desperation

Gray dawn hums softly -
cold coffee on the chipped sink,
steam ghosts into air.

The clock’s steady breath
fills the hollow of the room;
time forgets our names.

One light in the mist -
a train sighs through the distance,
never slowing down.

Evening folds its hands,
the stars blink and do not see;
we dream of nothing.

II. Lives of Bright Exclamation

Gold dawn cracks open -
coffee sings against the cup,
hands warm with intent.

The clock hums along,
each tick a spark in the air;
we call the hours ours.

Sunlight floods the mist,
a train roars past the platform,
windows filled with eyes.

Evening spreads its arms,
stars shout across the dark sky;
we dream in color.

Epilogue

Whether in stillness or in roar, the human spirit persists. Time passes, stars shine, and we move through the world, sometimes unnoticed, sometimes alive with purpose. These poems leave us in the space between reflection and action, a reminder that every life is both a whisper and a shout.
